Indiana, PA - The Indiana County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Franco Harris, Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers Running Back, will be the special guest speaker for the 110th annual membership meeting celebration set for Thursday Dec. 15, 2022, at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex (KCAC) on Wayne Avenue.

Harris is a retired National Football League (NFL) running back who was selected to 9 consecutive Pro Bowls and helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win four Super Bowls in the 1970’s. In 13 professional seasons he gained 12,120 yards rushing and scored 91 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

Harris may be most known for a play in a 1972 playoff game against the Oakland Raiders dubbed “The Immaculate Reception.” With the Raiders leading the Steelers 7-6 with 22 seconds to play, Steelers Quarterback Terry Bradshaw’s pass was deflected off of a Raiders player, and Harris caught the ball before it hit the ground and ran it in for the winning touchdown. The play was named the greatest play of all time by NFL.com. This year will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of that play. Harris has also recently had his number retired by the Steelers, one of only 3 players in the franchise to do so.

Harris has been a business owner for much of the past two decades. He will bring a message of resiliency to the attendees of the event in December.

Steve Drahnak, Chairman of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, has announced that in addition to Harris, a number of other exciting changes will be a part of this year’s Chamber event.

“We were looking at ways to enhance this event so that not only can we celebrate what the Chamber and business community have done over the past year, but also create an enjoyable environment for businesses and community leaders to come and celebrate with us,” Drahnak stated.

The event will begin at 3 pm with the annual meeting as well as the keynote address. In addition, multiple food stations situated around the arena as well as an open bar. Following the keynote address, there will be live music for the attendees to enjoy and a winter wonderland photo area for individuals and groups to take holiday photos in front of. Mark Hilliard, President of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, said that they are excited about some of the changes that will encourage businesses and their staffs celebrate the year.

“We want to encourage offices to bring their staffs to this event, learn about everything the Chamber is doing, and then make it their own office holiday party,” Hilliard said. “We would love for businesses to take photos in front of our display, and then we will place their business logo on the photo and give it to them to use for their own office holiday card.”

A VIP reception with Franco Harris for Chamber Board members as well as Chamber and event sponsors will begin at 2 p.m. followed by the event kicking off at 3 pm. Official invitations will be mailed out in October, though the event is open to everyone. Reservations are being accepted now. Tickets are as follows:

$725 per table of 10

In addition to the other activities, the Chamber will announce the 2023 Class of the Indiana County Business Hall of Fame as well as the Employer of the Year. Nomination forms for both can be found at the Chamber’s website.
